Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get started with a WordPress maintenance package?
To sign up for one of our WordPress maintenance plans, view our plans then select the “Sign Up Now” button under the plan that you’d like to start.
Once you’ve chosen the package you’d like to sign up for, you’ll be directed to our checkout page where you can complete the purchase of your maintenance subscription.
When you’ve completed the checkout process, you’ll eceive a Welcome Email with important details related to Onboarding including how to securely provide our team with admin access to necessary accounts (e.g. WordPress website, web host, domain registrar). The Welcome Email will also provide information on how to make support requests as well as what to expect and how to best utilize your plan.
If you signed up for a plan but did not receive your Welcome Email, please check all your email folders including spam, and if you still can’t find it, email us at support@embermethod.com.
How do I provide you with admin access to my website(s)?
In order to effectively provide our maintenance services, we’ll need admin access to your WordPress dashboard, web host or server, and domain registrar, at the least.
The Welcome Email you receive after signing up provides instructions and a secure way for you to provide all these credentials to us via email.
How do I submit a support ticket or website edit request?
We provide two easy ways for customers to submit support tickets:
- Use the Support Request form in the Customer Hub.
- Submit a ticket by directly emailing our support team at support@embermethod.com
What is your usual response time and resolution time?
This depends on the request. In the case of emergencies such as your website being down, we prioritize the request and work on getting you back online immediately. On the other hand, for less time-sensitive requests such as website content edits, we’ll usually get it done within 48-72 unless you let us know that it’s a particularly time-sensitive request.
NOTE: It’s important to note that our standard technical support covers common WordPress technical problems that arise as part of a standard WordPress installation and don’t require serious development or technical work to resolve. It does not cover custom integrations, custom code, etc. In those cases, we will count the time to diagnose and fix as developer hours (Ascent plan includes 1hr/mo; Peak plan includes 2hr/mo; additional hours or hours for Basecamp plan are billed hourly at $100/hour.
Do you offer one-time and add-on services?
Yes we do! See our services page to explore the variety of additional services we offer outside our 3 standard plans. These can be purchased as a one-time service that doesn’t include ongoing maintenance, or as a custom plan with add-on service(s) that includes ongoing maintenance for any additional services.
Do you offer one-time edits for Basecamp plans?
If you’re subscribed to our Basecamp plan and need help with basic website content edits, we’re happy to provide that at an hourly rate of $100, prorated to half hours – simply send in a support request and we’ll get in touch with an estimate. You can also upgrade to an Ascent or Peak plan to have website edits included in your plan.
What's included in your unlimited edits? What's not included?
Unlimited Website Edits includes basic updates to page and post content (e.g. updates to text and photos, headers, footers, page banners, etc.), plugin settings, CSS, and WooCommerce products and settings.
Things like custom development (PHP, plugins, themes, etc), updating custom code, third-party software or tools, graphic design, building full new pages or layouts, rebuilding or building a new website, and content writing or creation are not included in the Unlimited Website Edits but can apply to your plan’s “developer time” or can be purchased by the hour at $100/hour.
What is “developer time” and how does it work?
Site edits like custom development (PHP, plugins, themes, etc), updating custom code, third-party software or tools, graphic design, building full new pages or layouts, rebuilding or building a new website, and content writing or creation are not included in the Unlimited Website Edits but are covered with “developer time”. This is simply because things of this nature are more time-intensive for our developers. Here’s how it works.
Depending on your plan, a certain number of hours are included each month. If unused, developer time rolls over for one month only and expires at the end of the following month.
- Basecamp plans don’t include developer time. You can, however, purchase add-on developer time if you’re on a Basecamp plan.
- Ascent plans include 1 hour of developer time per month.
- Peak plans include 2 hours of developer time per month.
Is there a limit on support requests?
Nope! You can submit as many requests as you need to, but the amount of time it will take us to knock it all out depends on the services and number of services your plan comes with. You can always update your plan or purchase add-on hours for one-off extra needs.
Does my package include theme and plugin license renewals?
No – if you’re using premium or otherwise paid themes and/or plugins, it’s up to you to keep paying them. This keeps your licenses in your hands for whatever the future may bring.
What if a plugin or theme update breaks my site?
Sometimes unexpected things happen when updating something that’s been out of date for a long time or plays a complex role in your website. In the case that something goes awry, we’ll troubleshoot the issue, fix it, and make sure it won’t happen again.
Do your maintenance and support services include directly troubleshooting problems by talking to third party companies (plugin; themes; hosting) when necessary?
Yep, when there’s a conflict issue that’s keeping your website from running smoothly, we’ll get to the bottom of it one way or another. That’s what WordPress maintenance services are for!
Welcome to an easier website experience!
Do you use offshore staff?
No, we’re a Denver-based company and all our team members are based in the United States.
Do you just set up auto updates?
No! We do all updates manually and perform tests before and after to ensure everything is working the way it should.
Keeping things up to date is crucial to functionality, speed and security and that’s why it’s a flagship service of our wordpress maintenance packages, but sometimes updates can cause unexpected conflicts, errors or other problems. Especially when your site is complex and has a lot of plugins, keeping things up to date can be a daunting and time-consuming task. That’s where we come in, and you can rest assured it’s all done manually by a technical expert.
Do you also offer support for WooCommerce websites? What about membership sites or other types of WordPress ecommerce?
Yes! We offer support for advanced WordPress setups including WooCommerce and membership sites. Due to the higher resource requirement for these more advanced setups, we require websites like these to be on our Peak plan so we can devote the necessary time and care.
Can you build my WordPress website for me?
Yes, we do offer full website design and development services. Get in touch with us to discuss your needs and how we can fulfill them – possibly even for a simple monthly fee instead of a large upfront cost.*
*This depends on the specific scope of your website project and does not apply to most mid or large sized websites.
Do you offer custom WordPress development?
Yes. Our Ascent plans include 1 hour per month of developer time and our Peak plans include 2. We also offer dedicated wordpress development services for one-off needs by the hour – reach out to discuss and get a free estimate.
What hours do you keep?
Our monitoring systems run 24/7 to make sure everything is up and secure. If your site goes down or has a serious issue any time of day, our team gets the notification immediately and starts working on a solution. Our regular office hours are roughly M-F 9am-5pm MT, but we’re flexible with our availability to ensure our customers are taken care of.
Does it matter what hosting provider I'm using?
No, we’re happy to work with whatever web host you feel is best for your needs and budget. That said, some web hosts can limit our ability to optimize things like speed and security, and we’re always happy to make hosting recommendations.
How does onboarding work?
After you’ve completed checkout for your maintenance package, a Welcome Email will be sent to the email address provided during checkout. In the email, you’ll find a link to our onboarding form which includes details on how to provide us with your login credentials. You’ll need to fill that out and submit it to us in order to complete onboarding and begin your service with us.
Once you’ve completed the onboarding form, your information will be available to our team immediately and we’ll get started on our full onboarding checklist to optimize your website. This is typically completed within 48 hours.
Some optimization services such as speed optimization and mobile optimization can take up to a week as these services have a more involved setup process
You’ll receive your first website report once all onboarding is complete, then you’ll receive future reports at the end of each week or month (depending on your plan).
What if I have multiple (2+) sites that need to be managed?
We’ve got you covered. Since each individual site requires the same amount of setup and monitoring, you’ll need an individual plan for each site that you want managed. Say you have 3 sites, you need 3 plans with us – and they can vary as far as which tier each is signed up for. Each WordPress maintenance package covers one individual site, domain, subdomain or WordPress installation.
Can we call you for phone support?
Due to the way our pricing, services and team function, the vast majority of our support is done over email. That said, you can expect efficient and friendly customer service at all times from our team!
In circumstances that require more than email, we’ll reach out to you to set up a call or video chat.
Why is it important to have a WordPress maintenance plan?
WordPress maintenance keeps your site up to date and optimized on an ongoing basis. This means tip-top security, speed, functionality, SEO and, of course, uptime.
Read our full blog post about the importance of wordpress maintenance plans.
How much does WordPress maintenance cost?
Effective WordPress maintenance and optimization requires ongoing hours of work on a daily or weekly basis. Packages to manage all the necessary actions involved can range from below $100 per month for very basic plans, to several hundreds of dollars or even thousands per month for more advanced plans that include things like custom development and extra services.
How do I upgrade, downgrade or cancel my maintenance package subscription?
You can easily do this anytime. Keep in mind that downgrading means losing many premium features of the higher-tier plans – make sure you understand what will be changing about your site optimization.
You can submit your upgrade, downgrade, or cancellation requests to our support team using our ticket submission form or by emailing us directly at support@embermethod.com.
What is your cancellation and refund policy?
We offer both monthly (billing month-to-month) as well as yearly plans (billing annually for a discount). In either case, you can cancel your plan at any time.
In the case of yearly plans, get in touch to discuss a partial refund for unused months. For monthly services, since we provide service starting on the 1st of every month period, we don’t offer refunds. We’re happy to continue services through the current month period of your plan, but cannot refund the current month if you wish to terminate services immediately.
The discount for yearly plans only applies to plans that are kept for the full year term. For example, if you cancel prior to the end of the year term, the difference between the annual plan price and the month-to-month price for the number of months you were subscribed to a maintenance plan will be subtracted from your refund.
See our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for our exact refund and cancellation terms.
